RECRUITMENT EMBARGO AND TOURISM

Dermot Ryan of Kinsale Heritage wrote an excellent letter in The Irish Times yesterday (21/7). At the height of the tourist season, its Heritage Museum remains closed! The retired part-time caretaker cannot be replaced because of the embargo on public sector rectruitment. Perhaps those calling for a blanket reduction in the numbers employed in the public service should be mindful that the outcomes are not always desirable and can be very damaging.
