As the operating environment challenges Irish hotels to review operations, I suggest taking a look at Tune Hotels following its arrival in the UK in August. Tune opened its first property in Kuala Lumpar in 2007 and can truly be said to be 'low cost'. No towels, wardrobes, telephones, mini-bars, TV's, radios or safe despoit boxes are provided. Rooms come complete with a 5* bed, power shower, two IKEA hooks, a shelf, one socket and an electronic keylock system.
Rooms rates start from £35. Additional charges apply as follows:
- Towel & Toiletries £1.50
- Wifi £1.50 per hour, £3 per 24 hrs, or £10 per stay
- Room is serviced prior to arrival and on every other 3rd day, otherwise daily cleaning service charge is £7.50
- Hair dryer £2
- Luggage storage £2
- Television £3
While this concept might not be for everyone, there is no doubt that this pricing model will become more commonplace in years to come.
