BEFORE YOU PROVIDE GUESTS WITH EXTRAS, QUESTION IF THOSE EXTRAS ADD ANY VALUE TO THE GUESTS STAY?

Two hotels I stayed in recently provided guests with a complimentary morning newspaper. Someone had gone to the trouble of neatly folding the newspaper into a clear plastic cover and then hanging one outside every bedroom door. Now I know that's not particularly unusual and can be a nice treat first thing in the morning. However, the newspaper title delivered to guests was one both hotels choose to supply rather than one the guest might choose to order! It got me thinking that both hotels obviously thought they were offering guests something of real value when, in reality, the service added no particular value at all! This does not make a lot of sense...but it costs a lot of cents!
