9% FALL IN NUMBER OF VISITOR TO IRELAND FOR THE FIRST 3 MONTHS OF 2009

According to figures released last week by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the number of visitors to Ireland declined by 9% from 1.5 million to 1.4 million during the first three months of 2009. More worringly, the number of visitors from Britain declined by 15% in the same period. This reduction in visitor numbers occurred before the introduction of the €10 Air Travel Tax at the end of March. I suspect that the next set of quarterly figures might make sombre reading.
