THE IDEAS CAMPAIGN

Following the success of The Ideas Campaign, the government is to implement 17 of the proposals. From a tourism perspective, these include:
  • Promote Ireland as a green food island
  • Develop an 'Ireland' brand to attract international students
  • Encourage schools to take transition year trips within Ireland
  • Create 'volunteer corps' without loss of unemployment benefit.

The idea of promoting Ireland as a green food island is a no brainer. As Peter Ward from the award wining Country Choice in Nenagh told me recenly, the establishment of a 'national direct sale policy' and an 'international direct sale network' is essential to open up new markets for quality Irish produce. How else will the rural economy sustain itself in future years?
